The Buns Care Charity’s kids shoe drive more than doubled last year’s results by collecting and distributing 430 pairs of new children’s shoes this holiday season.

The community showed its generosity by buying new children-sized shoes and dropping them off at 21 participating area businesses. Volunteers collected and sorted the shoes, then got them to many of Northwest Indiana’s struggling families. The extra shoes were distributed to local organizations that help children in need, including St. Joseph Carmelite Home, St. Jude Home, Campagna Academy, Bethel Church, Xcel 2 Fitness, Hanover Township and Cedar Creek Township trustees, Impact Christian Church and Our Lady of Grace Outreach.

Happy feet in Northwest Indiana
Times Staff
Dec 25, 2016

The Buns Care Charity has announced that 179 of Northwest Indiana’s neediest children have received or will soon be receiving new shoes as a result of its 2016 shoe drive.

The community showed its generosity by buying new children-sized shoes and dropping them off at 12 designated area businesses. Volunteers went to each location, picked up the shoes on Dec. 5 and delivered them to the Buns Care office in Schererville. Monday night and Tuesday, volunteers sorted the shoes and delivered them in lots of 20 to 40 pair to scattered area churches with food/clothes pantries and to other service organizations that specialize in helping Northwest Indiana families in crisis. These locations immediately started giving them to their pre-vetted clients and they should complete the distribution before Christmas.
